No city income tax in Onaway

Like its neighbor Rogers City, the city of Onaway does not charge a local income tax. Michigan lets cities add an income tax on top of the state’s, but only about two dozen mostly larger cities do, and Onaway isn’t one of them. The nearest city that charges one is Grayling, roughly 60 miles to the southwest.

So as an Onaway resident, the only income tax you’ll owe is Michigan’s flat state rate — unless you commute to a city that has its own. Your local taxes here are mostly property taxes, which keeps the math simple in this small north-country town.
