Lake living in Mecosta County

Outdoors

mecosta county lakes lakefront outdoors

Mecosta County is full of lakes, and a lot of homes here sit on or near the water. Chippewa Township has Chippewa Lake, a long-standing cottage-and-year-round lake community; and Martiny Township sits in the Martiny Chain of Lakes — a string of connected lakes (Tubbs, the Evans lakes, Saddlebag and more) that’s popular for fishing and paddling.

A few things to keep in mind if you buy near the water. Lake-area roads and dams are sometimes maintained through a special assessment on lakefront owners, so ask what you’d owe. Most lake homes are on a well and septic (see the well-and-septic note), and a septic close to the water deserves a careful look. And lake levels on connected or dammed lakes are managed by a county-set legal level, which is worth understanding before you count on a given water view.
