No city income tax in Tawas City, East Tawas, or Whittemore

Good news for the Tawas area: none of Iosco County’s three cities — Tawas City, East Tawas, or Whittemore — levies a city income tax. Only about two dozen Michigan cities charge one (Detroit, Grand Rapids, Saginaw, and the like), and none of them are here.

So whether you live or work in Tawas City, East Tawas, or Whittemore, there’s no separate city income tax taken out on top of your state and federal taxes — and the same goes for anyone who commutes in to work but lives outside the city. It’s a small thing, but it keeps the tax picture simple when you’re planning a move to the Sunrise Side.
