No city income tax in Imlay City
Money and taxes
Unlike the county seat, the city of Imlay City does not have its own income tax. Lapeer — the county’s other city — charges a local income tax, which sometimes makes people wonder if Imlay City does too. It doesn’t. If you live or work in Imlay City, the only income taxes you’ll deal with are Michigan’s flat 4.25% state tax and your federal taxes — no extra city income tax to file or withhold. (The same goes for all the villages and townships in the county; a Michigan city income tax only exists inside the few cities that have adopted one, and here that’s just Lapeer.)
