Does Frankfort have a city income tax?

Money and taxes

benzie county frankfort city income tax money taxes

No — Frankfort does not have a city income tax, and that’s worth knowing if you’re moving here. Michigan is unusual in that it lets cities charge their own income tax, but only about two dozen cities in the whole state actually do (think Detroit, Grand Rapids, Lansing, and a handful of others). Frankfort isn’t one of them.

So in Frankfort — and everywhere else in Benzie County — you’ll pay state and federal income tax, but no local income tax on your paycheck. The city and county raise their money mainly through property taxes instead. When you’re comparing the cost of living here against a bigger city like Grand Rapids, that’s one less line item to worry about.
