Do Lake City or McBain have a city income tax?
Money and taxes
Short answer: no. Michigan lets cities — but not townships — charge a local income tax, and only about two dozen of them do. Lake City and McBain aren’t on that list, so there’s no city income tax anywhere in Missaukee County. (The county has no incorporated villages either — just these two small cities.)
If you live or work here, you’ll still pay the state income tax and your local property taxes, but you won’t file a separate city return the way folks do in places like Grand Rapids or Lansing. It’s a small thing, but it’s worth knowing when you’re weighing one town against another.
