Is there a city income tax in Cheboygan County?
Money and taxes
Good news for your paycheck: no. Michigan lets cities levy their own income tax on top of the state’s, and about two dozen of them do, but Cheboygan, the county’s only city, isn’t one of them. Wherever you live in Cheboygan County, in the city or out in the townships and villages, you’ll pay only the state and federal income taxes, with no separate city income tax taken out.
A few Michigan cities do tax the people who work within their limits, even non-residents, but none of those cities are in or near Cheboygan County, so for almost everyone here it simply doesn’t come up.
As always, a city can vote to start or stop an income tax over time, so it’s worth a quick check if that ever changes. But for now, Cheboygan County is income-tax-free at the local level.
