Superior Township is building a 320-acre preserve and farm
Superior Township is turning more than 320 acres into two connected public spaces. One is BirdSong Nature Preserve. The other is the Superior Township Community Farm. That is a large piece of open land between Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti, where new development is never far away.
The work goes beyond a new trailhead. The township adopted a phased plan to restore habitat, preserve farmland, and welcome the public. Future features include trails, butterfly gardens, a wildlife viewing platform, and a link to Cherry Hill Nature Preserve. The farm side is meant to add gardens and other activities over time.
The timing matters. BirdSong is a project in progress, not a finished park with every feature open today. The township describes the trails and farm amenities as part of a phased plan, so visitors should check the current parks page before heading out.
That unfinished quality is part of the local story. Superior is trying to keep woods, wet ground, and farms together before they become separate subdivisions. BirdSong gives that effort a public name and a long-term place on the township map.
