Lewiston and the Twin Lakes

Outdoors

montmorency county lewiston east twin lake west twin lake outdoors

In the southwest corner of Montmorency County sits Lewiston, one of the county’s three little towns and its summer playground. It grew up around water: East Twin Lake and the much larger West Twin Lake sit right at its edge, both popular for boating, swimming, and fishing for walleye, bass, and pike. And those are just the start — something like forty more lakes dot the surrounding woods within a short drive, so there’s almost always a quiet spot to drop a line or launch a kayak.

Lewiston is also a golf town. Garland Lodge & Resort, just outside the village, is one of Northern Michigan’s best-known golf destinations, with four full courses laid out through the pines. The AuSable River, one of the state’s famous trout streams, flows through the country just to the south.

This is four-season country. Summers are for the lakes and the fairways; come winter, the same woods fill with snowmobilers and cross-country skiers, and ice-fishing shanties dot the Twin Lakes. For buyers, Lewiston offers lakefront and wooded lots in a friendly resort community with restaurants, a curling club, and easy access to all that water.
