Lowell Township's riverfront park reaches both sides of the Grand

kent county grand river township parks trails

Lowell Township’s main park does not stop at the Grand River. North and South Riverfront parks sit opposite each other, with the Lowell Timber Footbridge joining them into one public space. The township’s 2026 recreation plan counts roughly 107 acres between the two sides.

The park began with a 70-acre riverfront purchase in 1991, and its first phase of development started in 1998. Another roughly 37 acres sits directly across the river to the north. The bridge turns what could have been a boundary into the center of the park.

Taken together, the two sides offer trails, shelters, playgrounds, fishing, soccer and volleyball areas, pickleball, disc golf, a splash pad, and other places to play. The mix is broad because the river divides the land without dividing the park.

Use the township’s current map to pick an entrance and find a particular amenity. The recreation plan also identifies accessibility work that remains, including better routes to some playground and restroom areas.

Where to see it

The north entrance is at 11998 Fulton Street SE; the south entrance is at 12025 Grand River Drive SE.
