Grand Hotel's 660-Foot Front Porch

Some claims are easier to enjoy once you know who is making them. Grand Hotel says its front porch stretches 660 feet and calls it the world’s largest. The 660-foot measurement is the hotel’s current figure. The sources we reviewed do not point to an independent record keeper that has certified the world ranking, so it is best read as the hotel’s long-running claim rather than a settled title.

That distinction does not need much polishing. The hotel says it opened on July 10, 1887, and the National Park Service lists it as a National Historic Landmark designated on June 29, 1989. The porch is the part that turns a very large hotel into a place people recognize from the water.

You do not have to book a room to see it, but you should not assume you can simply walk in. Grand Hotel publishes separate admission information for day visitors, and the available hours can vary. Check that page before you go, then leave yourself enough time to sit for a while. A 660-foot porch is more fun as a place than as a contest.
