Wells and septic in the townships: get your own inspection in Gladwin County

Home and property

gladwin county well septic home buying

Outside Gladwin and Beaverton, most township homes run on a private well and a septic system, permitted and inspected by the Central Michigan District Health Department (CMDHD), which covers six counties including Gladwin.

For most of the county, Gladwin is “buyer-beware”: there’s no rule that automatically triggers a septic-and-well inspection when a home is sold, so checking the system is on you. Before you close on a place with a well and septic, pay for your own evaluation — a failed drain field or a bad well can run many thousands to fix. (One exception in the county is Secord Township, which does require an inspection at sale; see that note if you’re looking up north.)

CMDHD’s Gladwin office is at 103 N. Bowery in Gladwin.
