Rapids, river road, and a trail that keeps growing: Scio's Huron riverfront
Outdoors
The prettiest miles of the Huron River around Ann Arbor run through Scio Township. Delhi Metropark sits where the old Delhi Mills village once stood, and the remains of its mill dam became the Delhi Rapids — a genuine class II riffle that gives canoers and kayakers their one bit of whitewater between Hudson Mills and Ann Arbor. Paddlers put in above or below the rapids, picnickers take the shady banks, and Huron River Drive alongside is one of the most beloved cycling roads in southeast Michigan.
It keeps getting better. The Border-to-Border Trail — Washtenaw County’s project to link Ypsilanti to Dexter and beyond with a paved riverside path — opened a new Scio Township stretch along Huron River Drive in 2024, closing one more gap in what’s becoming a marathon-length network of car-free trail. Buy a house in Scio and the river, the rapids, and the trail are effectively neighborhood infrastructure.
Where to see it
