No city income tax in Clinton County's cities

Home and property

clinton county city income tax home buying

Good news for your paycheck: none of Clinton County’s own cities — St. Johns, DeWitt, or Ovid — charges a local income tax. In those cities you’ll pay property taxes, but not a city tax on your wages on top of the state income tax.

One wrinkle if you’re house-hunting near Lansing: small slivers of the cities of Lansing and East Lansing actually cross the county line into Clinton County’s southern edge, and both of those cities do charge a city income tax (about 1% for residents). So if a specific address turns out to sit inside the Lansing or East Lansing city limits — even up here in Clinton County — that city’s tax applies. Inside St. Johns, DeWitt, Ovid, and the county’s townships and villages, it does not.
