The Centreville Grange Fair, since 1851
History and culture
Centreville is a small county seat, but for one week every September it’s the busiest place around. The St. Joseph County Grange Fair — almost everyone just calls it the Centreville Fair — has been running since 1851, which makes it one of the oldest fairs in Michigan, and it’s still one of the best-loved. Generations of local families have shown livestock, entered pies and produce, watched the harness racing and tractor pulls, and worked the midway here.
The fairgrounds sit on 150 acres with hundreds of camping spots, and fair week is a genuine homecoming — the kind of event people plan their year around. It runs for a week in late September.
